Soror Stefanie Brown

At twenty-seven years of age, Stefanie Brown has dedicated her life to empowering young people of

color to organize and advocate for justice and equality in their communities.  A native of Bedford

Heights, Ohio, Stefanie has been blessed with many opportunities to motive others to increase their

level of social activism and social consciousness.

Stefanie currently serves as the National Director of the NAACP Youth & College Division in

Baltimore, Maryland.  In this position, Stefanie is charged with developing and administering the

national youth program of the Association for more than 600 youth councils, high school and college

chapters representing over 30,000 young people under the age of 25.  Under her leadership, the Division

has created the “STOP Campaign” – aimed at addressing negative images of Black youth in the media;

the “Campaign to End Campus Racism”; the EMERGE Leadership Development Institute and the “2008

Vote Hard Campaign” – a youth voter empowerment initiative with the NAACP National Voter Fund.

Formerly the National Outreach Coordinator for Global Justice, Inc. in Washington, DC, Stefanie created

the organization’s Black Student Justice Network; a national student network to prompt youth engagement in informed advocacy, both domestic and international, around equity related policy issues pertinent to the Black community. 

Prior to joining Global Justice, Stefanie worked for the Antioch Development Corporation as the Program Coordinator of the Stopping AIDS is My Mission Program (SAMM); an HIV/STD prevention education program targeting high school aged African American and Latino youth.  Stefanie’s primary responsibilities included administering multi-session, HIV prevention interventions to 5,000 teens in the Cleveland Public Schools, Cleveland Job Corps, and the Department of Detention Services. 


Graduating from Howard University in 2004, Stefanie majored in Business Management while actively participating in various campus and community organizations.  Stefanie ran for the presidency of the Howard University Student Association as a sophomore and subsequently was elected to serve in this position during her junior year; becoming Howard’s youngest, student government female president.  In 2003, Stefanie received the university’s most prestigious student service award, the Howard University Outstanding Leadership Award.

Stefanie is the President and CEO of SL.Brown Enterprise, a community relations consulting company; the founder of the Harvey & Delores Brown Scholarship Fund; and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.  Stefanie currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Black AIDS Institute’s African American HIV University Community Mobilization College and served on the Dellum Commission’s Reproductive Health for Young Men of Color National Taskforce.  Featured on CNN, MSNBC, and USA Today, Stefanie was recognized as one of Ebony Magazine’s 2007 “Top 30 Young Leaders under the Age of 30” and was awarded the 2007 Lamplighter Award for Public Service by the Black Leadership Forum.
